Gratitude: One simple act that will change the way you see the world

Have you ever wondered what all the fuss is about when it comes to gratitude?

Nearly every coach or spiritual healer will tell you of its benefits – that’s because it works!

Gratitude is a powerful way of thinking and being that will improve your physical and emotional well-being and once integrated into your life, it becomes part of who you are.

Acknowledging what you are grateful for does two things.

  1. It shifts the focus of your brain from negative to positive, from problems to solutions, from worry and fear to being centred.
  2. Gratitude also carries a high vibration, so by practicing gratitude you lift your own vibration and then attract higher vibration people and situations to you.  It’s the law of attraction, based in Quantum Physics.  It’s not just woo-woo, there is science behind it.
The physical gains

By focusing on gratitude, you will start growing neural pathways that focus on the good in your world.

This helps because our brains are naturally wired to look for danger and focus on problems. This is problematic because when we are focused on the problem, we don’t see the solution, or what is good in our world.

Coming from a place of gratitude, also calms the nervous system and has a positive impact on the health of the physical body, taking you out of the stress response into a calmer and more centred mind-set.

How we view the world through our own lens

Our brains are bombarded with between 2 and 12 million bits of information every single second.  We process this information through our senses.  And I’ll let you in on a secret, we have way more than 5 senses.  We have intuition, spatial awareness, vertical and horizontal balance, and the list goes on.

While all this information is available, our brains can only take in about 134 bits.  So, if we are focused on the problem, guess which 134 bits we take in, and then we miss or ignore all of the millions of bits of information that is helpful or positive.

If we start to focus on gratitude, we will shift which bits of information our brain notices and uses.  We create new neural pathways and start to have a more positive view of the world.

This is not to minimise anything big you are going through.  Acknowledge it, take steps to heal and then by using gratitude, solutions and positives will come into your awareness.

Lift your vibration

The laws of Quantum Physics, which are the basis of the Law of Attraction, state that you attract people and situations of a similar vibration to yourself.

So, by lifting your vibration with gratitude, along with other modalities, such as getting out in nature, meditation and healing, you will naturally draw more positive people and situations into your world.

My guidance for gratitude
  • Go out and buy yourself a new journal and maybe some nice, coloured pens.
  • Each day write: Today I am grateful for ……………………. because ……………..
  • Do 3 things you are grateful for.
  • Do this every day. Schedule it into a time of day that works for you.  Maybe with your morning coffee, or as you get into bed at night.
  • As you remember and write each one, really allow yourself to acknowledge what you are writing about and feel the gratitude and what it means to you.
  • If you find it hard, remember to keep it simple. Think of everyday things that you have, shoes, clothes, a warm bed, food to eat.  Things that you may take for granted but would struggle without.  Then acknowledge them and be grateful for them.
  • Imagine life a hundred years ago and the things you have that make life easier that didn’t exist back then.
  • As you get more familiar with the practice, you can start to acknowledge bigger and more profound things – people in your life, events that have shifted you to where you are now, and the good times you have experienced.
Remember, Gratitude helps you see what’s there, instead of what isn’t.
